Winter season encounters the maximum number of ill cases with cold and flu occupying the top stop. Immunity takes a dip and the harsh cold condition makes us prone to catching the infections. Fever, cough, cold, throat ache, all these symptoms clubbed together can act as a hurdle in the day-to-day activities. In such a situation, this traditional Rajasthani drink can help you. Made using Bajra, Raab is a winter drink that is majorly prepared in the Rajasthan and Gujarat region. Read on to know what is Raab and how to make it at home.
Raab is a warm drink mainly prepared using bajra, jaggery, ajwain, ginger powder and other such ingredients that instantly provide relief from cold symptoms. The consistency of Raab resembles Sheera, which is also a homemade remedy for cold prepared using besan, ghee, milk, jaggery in the Northern states. Also dubbed as ‘poor man’s staple’, bajra is a powerhouse of nutrients and provides a number of health benefits. It is a starchy grain, loaded with fibre, which gives your body the much-needed energy. Bajra is a must-have grain for heart patients as the presence of niacin in it can efficiently lower the bad cholesterol levels in the body.

Ingredients required- 1 tbsp bajra flour, ½ tbsp wheat flour, ¼ tsp dry ginger powder, ¼ tsp carom seeds, ¼ tsp black pepper powder, 1 tbsp ghee, 1 tbsp jaggery powder and 1¼ cups of water.

Method-
Step 1- Heat ghee in a pan.
Step 2- Add bajra and wheat flour. Quickly whisk it to combine with the ghee and prevent lumps.
Step 3- Roast on low-medium flame until the colour changes to light-brown.
Step 4- Now add 1¼ cups of water along with jaggery powder, ginger powder, carom seeds, black pepper powder and whisk well.
Step 5- Cook on medium-high heat by whisking continuously until the mixture reduces to one cup. This will take about 4-5 minutes.
Step 6- Pour into a mug and drink while hot.
There are a number of home remedies that can ease out harsh cold/flu symptoms in a jiffy. You can consume Besan Sheera that will provide warmth also control a runny nose.
Ginger is a wonder-vegetable for the ill. You can sip on a warm bowl of Ginger Soup to give relief to a scratchy throat.
