Honey is a healthy alternative to sugar. But just like any other thing, too much honey is bad for your health. It is made by the bees from the nectar of flowers. It helps with weight loss and has various other health benefits. But due to increased consumption of kadha and various teas for boosting immunity, the consumption of honey has also increased in the past few months. But have you ever thought if there can be any possible side effects of consuming this sweet nectar?
Here are five things that can happen when you consume too much honey.
Honey is rich in sugar and carbohydrates. So, if you eat too much honey, it can raise your blood sugar level. Consuming too much honey, especially if you are a diabetic can lead to a rise in the blood sugar level, which can be dangerous.
Digestive issues like constipation can get worse with too much consumption of honey. The high fructose content in honey can lead to constipation, even if you don’t have any existing issue. It can also lead to bloating or diarrhoea as your body cannot digest too much sugar at once.
Honey works well for people who have high blood pressure. But when consumed in excess, it can also lower blood pressure below normal also called hypotension. In the long run, low blood pressure can affect the functioning of your heart.
Weight gain is the last thing that we want. If you are on a weight loss diet, it’s extremely essential to control the amount of honey you eat. As the excess calories, sugar and carbohydrates present in honey can backfire your weight loss goals.
Too much honey means too much sugar, which can promote tooth decay. As per the USDA National Nutrient Database around 82 per cent of honey is sugar, which can damage your teeth. Honey is sticky, which means it can cling to your teeth and further promote tooth decay.
It is important to practice moderation when it comes to consuming honey. Around 50 ml of honey every day is optimal for your health. You should not go overboard to avoid the aforementioned issues.
