PHOENIX — The owners of a longtime barbecue restaurant in central Phoenix have sold the space to another barbecue operation, which plans to make the location its third in the Valley.
Little Miss BBQ bought the Honey Bear’s BBQ at Central Avenue and Thomas Road for about $1.48 million, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
Gary Clark, co-owner of Honey Bear’s, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday that the location will remain open until March 1.
“When they came to us and told us they were interested in the spot, it was good to know it was going to kind of stay the same,” Clark said. “It’s still going to be in the barbecue family.”
Honey Bear’s has operated its central Phoenix spot since 1997. Clark said they want to find a new location, likely on the east side of Phoenix.
Honey Bear’s original location at 50th and Van Buren streets will remain open.
“We’re kind of passing the baton to a younger generation,” Clark said.
Little Miss BBQ has two locations, with its original near 44th Street and University Drive.
Its second location, near Seventh Street and Dunlap Avenue, opened in 2018.
