You might have seen beautiful white coloured Moringa flowers that are a visual treat to look at. But do you know that these flowers are edible and you can even make a sabzi from them? Also known as drumstick flowers or ‘sahjan ke phool’, Moringa flowers can be consumed in the form of tea, fritters, curry and even sabzi. They are a popular culinary ingrredient in Eastern India. Read on to know how you can make a nutritious sabzi from Moringa flowers in the easiest way possible.
250 grams Moringa flower, 250 grams peas, 2 onions, 3 tomatoes, 1 green chilly, 1 tbsp ghee, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1/2 tablespoon garam masala and salt as per taste.

While buying moringa flowers and buds, make sure they don’t have extra stems. These unwanted stems can be hard to clean and if cooked, might even spoil the taste of the sabzi. Let the flowers sit in boiled water overnight. It is best to leave them in water for long hours, as it helps in eliminating the bitterness.

Moringa flowers are loaded with calcium, potassium and amino acids. They are super healthy for breastfeeding mothers, as they help in lactation. They contain an antioxidant called Quercetin, which helps in lowering blood pressure. People with diabetes can also safely consume them, as the flowers contain Chlorogenic acid which lowers blood sugar levels. A number of folks also drink Moringa tea to boost immunity and shield themselves from common cold and seasonal infections.
