With Omicron emerging as the dominant variant that is spreading like wildfire across the world, the time to look out for oneself and one’s family has come yet again. With cases doubling by the day and restrictions like night curfews in place, social distancing is the need of the hour along with taking good care of your health. It is believed that herd immunity will be the result of the third wave of the pandemic but in order to build and consolidate one’s inbuilt immunity, we must take a healthy diet and exercise adequately.
The last two waves of the pandemic made us realize the value of pre-existing concoctions and herbs that were extensively consumed by people for immunity. Kaadhas and other concoctions that involved spices and herbs prescribed by Ayurveda found their way into our daily diet despite having been in our kitchens for the longest time. Spices found in our kitchen are an integral part of Ayurvedic concoctions known as kaadhas. Cloves, black pepper, cinnamon, cumin and cardamom are key ingredients that have numerous health benefits and are found in every Indian household. We bring to you, how you can incorporate black pepper and cloves into your diet.
Black pepper is found in the powdered form as well as in the whole form. It is one of the most commonly used spices in Indian households and has a sharp and mildly spicy flavour that is pleasing to the taste buds. It has anti-inflammatory properties that control diseases such as arthritis, skin diseases and regulates blood glucose levels and cholesterol. The versatile spice is also known to boost the absorption of nutrients and promote gut health.

Adding black pepper to your daily diet is easy and can be done without much hassle. Tea, coffee and other warm drinks can easily accommodate powdered or whole black pepper to improve the flavour and taste. Vegetable preparations and curries in Indian households are seldom prepared without adding black pepper. You can add black pepper to salads, dressings and soups.

Flower buds of the clove tree, cloves are found both in the ground and whole forms and can be used in either. Sweet and aromatic, the numerous health benefits of clove make it a versatile spice that is easily available and can be incorporated into one’s daily diet. Rich in Vitamin K, manganese and fiber, cloves contain antioxidants and prove to be effective in fighting against cancer. In addition to this, they promote bone health and regulate blood glucose levels.

Adding them to your daily diet is easy. Ground cloves can be added to many vegetable preparations and curries because they add flavour and taste. Adding them in boiling water while preparing tea is also a great way to incorporate them in your daily diet. Adding them to rice is a great way to curb the cool nature of rice which acts on the respiratory system, especially during winter. Another great way in which you can consume cloves is by making a detox drink in which spices like cloves and others as per taste and quantity can be added. Simply having two cloves with honey early in the morning can help build the immune system.
