Chyawanprash is a cherished ancient Ayurvedic remedy for boosting immunity and reducing the risk of getting sick. Since childhood, we have seen our grandparents and parents consuming chyawanprash and on occasions, we have even been compelled to have it, especially during winters. A spoonful of sweet and sour, sticky and jam-like mixture called chyawanprash is one of the healthiest things you can consume in a day. Prepared with healthy ingredients acknowledged in Ayurvedic Sciences, the potent antioxidant paste can help to boost the immune health, provide nutrition and keep you in the pink of your health. There are varieties of chyawanprash available in the market, which often confuses people about which one they should pick. Here we will tell you the right way to consume chyawanprash and how to pick the right one based on your health condition.
Chyawanprash is a paste-like thick concoction prepared with different kinds of herbs and spices. The ingredients are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. One of the main ingredients of chyawanprash is amla or gooseberry, which is extremely rich in vitamin C. Apart from that it contains spices present in your pantry and other herbs and roots that have great medicinal importance in Ayurveda. These ingredients possess antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic and anti-mutagenic activities. Together they help to strengthen the immune system and enhance the body’s ability to fight disease-causing pathogens.

In most households, this herbal mixture is consumed particularly in the winter season as a drop in temperature increases the risk of falling sick. But you can have it throughout the year to reap its myriad amazing benefits. Apart from boosting immunity, eating chyawanprash can also help to cleanse your respiratory system. It reduces the mucus build-up and clears the air passage. Made with healthy ingredients, it can also promote the healthy movement of gases and the regular elimination of waste from the body. Moreover, it also plays a vital role in triggering the reproductive system and promoting sexual health. It may come as a surprise, but chyawanprash was originally formulated to strengthen and revitalize the reproductive organs and promote fertility in both men and women.

Although chyawanprash eating is healthy you must not overdo it. Excessive intake may lead to indigestion, flatulence, abdominal bloating, loose stools and abdominal distention. Adults can have 1 teaspoon twice daily, with lukewarm milk or water in the morning and evening. For kids, 1/2 teaspoon of chyawanprash daily is more than enough. Those suffering from asthma or respiratory disorders should avoid consuming chyawanprash with milk or curd.
Chyawanprash is prepared by combining 50 different types of herbs and spices. But the number of ingredients may vary depending on the brand you are buying. Look for the ingredients on the bottle before buying.

To give the mixture a sweet and sour taste, sweeteners like jaggery, sugar or honey are used in preparing chyawanprash. So, those with the problem of high blood sugar levels must be careful while consuming it. If the blood sugar level is in control, patients can have about 3 grams of it per day. In any case, for a diabetic patient, it is best to consult the doctor before including chyawanprash in their diet.
